Despite the fact that CRC is one of the most survivable forms of cancer when caught early, the cancer kills approximately 49,000 Americans each year. Screening should begin by age 50 for most people, while African-Americans should begin getting screened at age 45. A recent government survey found that only 65% of the adults that should be screened actually are.
In addition to seeking screenings, people can incorporate healthy lifestyle changes to promote their colorectal health:
Eat less red meat
Eat more vegetables, fruit and fiber
Exercise
Maintain a healthy weight
Limit alcohol
Don’t smoke
