“Monitored Anesthesia Care” – The Standard in Endoscopic Sedation

The GI and anesthesia communities have not always seen eye-to-eye on who provides sedation with propofol as it relates to monitored anesthesia care and
sedation for GI procedures. PCC maintains that MAC sedation is a vital part of colonoscopy procedures and should be performed by anesthesiologists, although
this practice still faces some controversy.

New Code Will Raise Some Deductibles
Effective this year a new modifier called ‘PT” has been added to the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System. The good news is that this change will trigger
the claim processing system to waive the deductible for all surgical services on the same date as the diagnostic procedure.
