National Data Point Need To Consider CRC in Younger Patients

Friday, August 12, 2016

The number of cases of colorectal cancer (CRC) among people younger than 50 years is rising dramatically, even as it falls among older Americans, new figures show.

A new analysis of the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) presented at the 2016 Digestive Disease Week (abstract Tu1812) found an 11.4% increase in the number of young-onset CRC cases between 2004 and 2013. The number of cases among older people fell by 2.5% during the same period. The findings match earlier reports of an alarming rise in cases of CRC among people considered too young for routine screening to detect the disease.
